PHOENIX (AP) â April was pretty awful for the Colorado Rockies. May is off to a much better start thanks to a big offensive performance.
Dom Nuñez hit a grand slam, Trevor Story had three hits that included a two-run homer and the Rockies pounded out 18 hits in a 14-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.
It was an encouraging night at the plate for the Rockies, who had the most losses in the National League during April with a 9-17 record. The top three hitters in Colorado’s lineup all had good games: Raimel Tapia had four singles and scored two runs, Story added a double to go with his homer and Ryan McMahon had two hits and four RBIs, including the go-ahead, two-run single in the fourth.

The Rockies game into this game 1-10 on the road, and the D-backs were looking to seal a series victory, with their ace Zac Gallen on the mound. It didn’t quite work out that way, with Arizona surrendering a season-high fourteen runs on eighteen hits. We saw Diamondbacks’ position players record the final five outs of the game - and, if the truth be told, they were not the worst pitching performances we saw tonight. A 2-1 lead after three innings seemed like a distant memory by the time this one ended.
