The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering a six month workshop to teach skills needed to hunt, field dress and cook white-tailed deer to individuals who have little to no archery hunting experience.
This workshop consists of summer long archery practices, a fall workshop and hunting opportunities throughout Iowa’s archery season. All sessions are lead by instructors that possess the experience to teach skills necessary to become efficient archers and bow hunters.
“For those interested in the challenge of bow hunting as a means of sourcing their own protein or red meat, this program provides the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge it takes to do it all yourself,” said Jamie Cook, program coordinator with the Iowa DNR.

Not since 1996 has the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife proposed any serious changes to the hunting and freshwater fishing license fees in the Commonwealth. But now, to ensure the continued conservation of wildlife, fish and plants in Massachusetts, the topic has come back to the surface.
Over the past two decades, MassWildlife has maintained a high level of programs and services through responsible fiscal management without needing to raise license fees at all. But with inflation looming at 67 percent since 1996, added responsibilities on the agency and steadily increasing state-mandated costs, revenue has not been meeting expenses for several years. Sporting and hunting license sales have declined drastically over the last 25 years, and the number of free licenses issued to those 70 years and older has totaled almost 27,000 per year.
AMORY â Whitetails Unlimited is a national nonprofit conservation organization founded in 1982 focused on wildlife conservation of the white-tailed deer and its environment. The Monroe County chapter began in 2017, according to co-founder Chad Hill.
âWe actively partner with the national organization in its mission to preserve a pristine environment for sportsmen while educating young people about wildlife conservation and hunter safety,â he said. âWe also engage in fundraisers to help veterans, as well as children who may be disabled or disadvantaged.â
Hillâs local fundraising organization, D.T.D. Outdoors, has a three-fold mission in sponsoring local educational programs; promoting local wildlife habitat enhancement and acquisition; and preservation of the hunting tradition and shooting sports for future generations.
