UPDATE:Aaron Morris' dog Jolene has been found. Morris' sister said Jolene was found on the side of the road in Morristown, Tennessee. Morris will pick her up at a Humane Society on Wednesday. The family of a Waynesville area man is fighting to find his service dog. Aaron Morris’ family said his car got stolen on Friday with his dog inside. HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the April 20 crash near Bonds Ferry Road in Haywood County.
Two people, a mother and son from Texas, were killed in the crash, according to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
The report says the Piper PA-28RT-201 plane was destroyed when the student pilot crashed around 8:52 p.m. April 20.
According to the report, the pilot met with a flight instructor on April 20 to discuss the flight from Pearland Regional Airport in Houston, Texas to Kyle-Oakley Field Airport in Murray, Kentucky.
The report says the pilot told the flight instructor that the trip was to visit a hospitalized family member, and that the flight was supposed to be a daytime trip due to incoming weather and nighttime conditions. The pilot expected to leave by 1 or 2 p.m., though the report says the flight did not take off until 6:20 p.m.

The Hays County Commissioners Court provided information regarding future evening and night COVID-19 vaccination sites at its April 27 meeting.
The vaccination sites aim to cater to individuals who work during regular hours of the day. The first evening site is scheduled from 5-10 p.m. on April 30 at Sinai Pentecostal Church located at 208 Laredo St.
The court also adopted proclamations declaring April 25 to May 2 as Soil & Water Stewardship Week. Soil & Water Stewardship Week encourages community members to continue to preserve natural resources like fertile soil and clean water.

JACKSON, Tenn. The daughter of a Haywood County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was killed outside a bar in 2008 is coming home to speak with students about her experience with gun violence.
On the outside, it may have looked like just “girl talk,” but Ashlee Akins’ message to high school students at Liberty Technology Magnet High School on Thursday morning was much more.
“A lot of people have a lot of advice, but a lot of people don’t want to put the action or the work in, and I’m here to do that,” said Akins, a published author, television personality and influencer.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee was heading from Houston to Murray, Tennessee when it crashed into a swamp.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. A Houston mother and son were killed when their small plane crashed in rural west Tennessee.
The victims, ages 74 and 54, had taken off from Houston on a flight to visit relatives in Tennessee, according to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
Their single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed into a swamp in rainy weather late Tuesday. It s not clear if the weather was a factor in the crash.
Searchers didn’t find the crash scene until Wednesday when a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter spotted wreckage in a heavily wooded area.
