The past fortnight has seen market commentary fixated on wild share price moves across certain US-listed stocks including GameStop (GME), as retail investors associated with Reddit forum r/WallStreetBets (r/WSB) piled in as part of a coordinated attack on hedge funds, via a short squeeze.
It has led to some heavy losses on both sides of the trade, most notably via the performance collapse of multi-billion dollar hedge funds, while other areas of the market have also been impacted as the long/short vehicles were forced to unwind unrelated positions.
Alerts: Environment Agency officials say updates are regularly posted on their website FLOOD alerts are still in place for two north Cumbrian rivers, says the Environment Agency. The alerts - which mean that flooding is considered possible - are for the Rivers Wampool and Ellen, though water levels have fallen in recent hours. In a statement issued yesterday evening, the Agency said: River levels have fallen at the Station Road Innovia river gauge in Wigton. However, with more rainfall expected this evening and overnight (January 28) river levels are expected to rise again. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads in the Wigton, Waverton, Abbeytown, Blennerhasset, Dearham, Maryport and Allonby areas.
Tanker involved in collision on B5302
Fire crews had to release a casualty from a tanker involved in a road traffic collision near Wigton last night.
The fire service was called at around 10.20pm to the B5302 at Waverton near to the sitting box junction.
The collision only involved the tanker and a single casualty was released with the help of fire service personnel.
