Man arrested on Llandudno street after waving knife and shouting

A MAN in a black face covering was arrested after claims that he was seen ‘waving a knife’. North Wales Police officers attended the incident on Mostyn Street in Llandudno at about 3pm on Tuesday, January 26. Video footage was taken by a resident during the incident in which four officers had taken a man to the ground. Eyewitnesses said the man had been running up and down the street and shouting in an “erratic” and “irritated” manner. Traffic was brought to a halt as four police cars were parked on the road as officers arrived at the scene.

The Journal has been told that ITV have secured the 200-year-folly and its grounds for a second year in case the site is needed for the popular show. ITV would not confirm the agreement but there has already been much speculation in the national press that a return to North Wales is being considered. The show drew in 11.2 million viewers across the series (12.1m viewers watched the final) and a fundraiser - to improve facilities at Gwrych Castle - has received a major boost.

Former pupil of St David s College in Llandudno completes training to serve on warships

A ROYAL Navy sailor from Llandudno has completed his training to serve on warships and support ships around the world. Able Rate Ewan Williams qualified as a naval airman, an old job title which nowadays includes both men and women, and joined the navy’s Aircraft Handlers’ Branch. Naval airmen work on the flight decks of warships and support ships to allow flying operations and are specially training in firefighting and rescue. Vulnerable mental health patients across North Wales receive Covid-19 vaccine

NHS staff providing hospital care to older people with severe mental illness have spoken of their joy and relief at seeing their vulnerable patients receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Patients over the age of 80 on mental health wards in hospitals across North Wales are among those to have received the vaccine in recent weeks, in what staff have described as a huge milestone in the fight against the pandemic. Patients on older person’s mental health wards often have severe mental illness or complex dementia, which can make keeping them safe from Covid-19 infection particularly challenging. Since the beginning of the pandemic, staff within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s (BCUHB) mental health and learning disabilities services have introduced significant changes to their working practices in order to keep patients safe.

Health minister warns people should not expect major lockdown changes this week

PEOPLE should not expect major changes to coronavirus measures at the end of the week, the health minister has said. Vaughan Gething made the statement during a press conference in Cardiff on Monday when asked about what the future holds for Wales as the country fast approaches the review date for the lockdown imposed back in December. He said that the rates of coronavirus remain high in Wales and stresses that people should not expect much to change when it comes to easing restrictions to prevent pressure returning upon the NHS.
