NORTH WALES has long been an area where top footballers are born and bred and many of those have gone on to represent the national team. The likes of Wrexham’s Robbie Savage, Mancot’s Gary Speed and Ruabon’s Mark Hughes have all starred in the red strip of Wales in years gone by. At Euro 2016, Neil Taylor (Ruthin), Owain Fôn Williams (Penygroes), David Vaughan (Abergele), Danny Ward (Wrexham) and Wayne Hennessey (Beaumaris) were the North Wales representatives in Chris Coleman’s side which created history. That team, of course, defied the odd to reach the semi-finals of the tournament held in France, beating Slovakia, Russia, Northern Ireland and Belgium along the way.
A woman has been left partially paralysed and suffered a brain bleed after a horrific high-speed roller-skating crash. Holidaymaker Madison Adams was trying out her new skates – which she jokingly called her “cute little death traps” – when she smashed her skull while she was skating down a steep hill along the coast path between Rhyl and Colwyn Bay. Madison, who works at an opticians, was on holiday in her campervan with her pet dog Noah, when she collided with her friend s skateboard and was sent onto the ground, hitting her head on the path. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for a bleed on the brain after the crash on April 19.
