TORONTO - The Pattison Canadian International has been included on Woodbine s 2021 thoroughbred stakes schedule.
The turf race was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but is scheduled to be run Sept. 18 on a card that will also include the $1-million Woodbine Mile. Woodbine Racetrack s 21 thoroughbred season is slated to open April 17, subject to Ontario government COVID-19 protocols.

Woodbine Entertainment unveiled its stakes schedule today for the 2021 Thoroughbred racing season at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, set to open April 17 (subject to the latest Ontario Government COVID-19 protocols).
The lucrative 2021 Thoroughbred stakes program will offer more than $16.5 million in purses across 87 stakes and feature a pair of $1 million classics, including the iconic Queen s Plate (Sunday, August 22), as well as the Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Saturday, September 18), a Breeders Cup “Win And You re In” race. The G1 $600,000 Pattison Canadian International returns after a year hiatus due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and will be featured on the Woodbine Mile card along with the G2 $250,000 Canadian Stakes. The 86th running of the Prince of Wales Stakes is set to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14, first race post time 1:00 p.m. The $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes is Fort Erie Race Track s signature event, for Canada s finest 3-year-old thoroughbreds running 1 mile and 3/16 on Fort Erie s dirt track.
The race is the second jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown, between the Queen s Plate (scheduled for Aug. 22), and the Breeders Stakes, both held at Woodbine Racetrack.
For the second year in a row COVID-19 has pushed the race from its traditional date at the end of July to September. It is too early to predict if fans will be permitted to attend, or if COVID-19 will continue to impact attendance.
