Fire restrictions expand July 1 on Vale District

VALE – The Bureau of Land Management’s Vale District Office announced on Monday that additional fire restrictions will take effect Thursday. “It is uncommonly drier than normal in eastern Oregon, which is why we are entering into fire restrictions earlier than we have the last few years,” Vale District Fire Management Officer Tracy Skerjanec said in a news release. “Rising temperatures combined with minimal precipitation throughout June have now cured the annual grasses and other fine fuels that carry fire quickly.” Large wildfires are already starting in the Pacific Northwest, where wildfire season normally occurs in late summer. Vale joins the Oregon Department of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service in issuing restrictions intended to protect public and private lands and communities in eastern Oregon.

Bureau of Land Management welcomes new Vale District Manager VALE, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management named Wayne Monger as its new Vale District Manager, replacing Don Gonzalez, who retired in December 2020 after 14 years in the role. It is my pleasure to announce the selection of Wayne Monger as Vale District Manager,” said Barry Bushue, BLM Oregon-Washington State Director. “Wayne is committed to cross-program collaboration with external and internal customers and has managed several challenging resource issues for the BLM. Most recently, Monger worked as the Deputy District Manager of the BLM Roseburg District in western Oregon, where he managed district operations, resources, and administration. Monger also has extensive experience working in high desert environments, due to his previous work at the St. George Field Office in the Color Country District in Utah and his work in the Arizona Strip District in Arizona.

Patrols will increase at popular hot spring; nudity can be considered hazard/nuisance

ADRIAN Ongoing issues at a popular hot springs, including people trespassing outside of day use hours and criminal activity, are cited as reasons that federal, state and county law enforcement officers will be increasing patrols in the area. Malheur County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers will be joining officials from the Bureau of Land Management — Vale District in increasing patrol at Snively Hot Springs day use area along the Owyhee River starting March 19. Additionally, they will be citing individuals found violating site rules or laws governing public lands, which can include using marijuana or being nude. While marijuana is decriminalized in the state of Oregon, it is still illegal federally, and the hot springs is on federal public land.
