The lawmakers, who announced their defection during plenary, include Jemili Akingbade, who was also the former Minority Whip, Adegoke Adeyanju, and Wahab Haruna
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, read their separate letters of defection to the members of the assembly. In the letter, the lawmakers cited ”internal crisis” and ”the need to join the progressives to further contribute their quota to the development of the state” as some of the reasons for their action.
They also said they had consulted with their leaders and constituents.
With the defection, the State House of Assembly now consists of 25 members of the ruling party with only a member from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Pakistani government is currently reviewing ‘Naya Mazdoor’ (meaning New Labour in Urdu), a project launched in 2019 by Mariam Malik, a Pakistani expat in the UAE who is a professional in mass skilled workforce recruitment and business development since 2006. The project took over 15 months to design and develop by Malik, who is currently in talks with donors. She travelled to Pakistan in March 2020 to pursue and propose the solution to the government there. She went there because she believes that ‘Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is now leading the government, is the only politician who has voiced his concern for overseas workers and had ‘transparency and change’ on his political agenda.
Tax exemption sought for donated COVID-19 vaccines, other supplies
A SENATOR is seeking to exempt donated vaccines and other medical supplies used for the coronavirus response from donor’s tax. Senator Juan Edgardo M. Angara filed Senate Bill No. 2046, which proposes the tax holiday to be in effect starting this year to 2023. “In order to bolster the supply of vaccines, this bill makes it easier to accept donations of critical products, essential goods, equipment or supplies needed to contain and mitigate COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), including the vaccines, by exempting these from donor’s tax for a definite period, subject to certain conditionalities,” Mr. Angara said in his explanatory note.
