Local Recovery Fund project to support refugee and CALD job seekers in South Eastern Melbourne
The South Eastern Melbourne and Peninsula region will benefit from a $166,280 investment to help local job seekers back into work, as part of the Australian Government’s Local Recovery Fund.
The Local Recovery Fund is an important part of the Local Jobs Program and the Australian Government’s Economic Recovery Plan. The first release of 15 local employment projects comprises an initial investment of more than $2 million.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, the Hon Stuart Robert MP, said local knowledge and community links will continue to play a vital role in Australia’s recovery from COVID-19.

The Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast region will benefit from a $154,810 investment to help local women back into work, as part of the Australian Government’s Local Recovery Fund.

Skills Generation has created an employment project for mature-aged women job seekers who have been displaced due to COVID-19. The initiative was made possible through the federal government s Local Recovery Fund which was designed to address job vacancies and help upskill workers to better meet employer demand. The Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions have received a $154,810 investment as part of the fund, with the first release of 15 local employment projects making up more than $2m in investments. The government s Local Jobs Program will run through to 2022 in several regions across Australia that have been impacted by COVID-19.

Amy Kuo saw firsthand how powerful it can be to tackle the big problems of our times in small ways when she was on a California Conservation Corps work crew a few years ago in the sweltering summer heat deep in a forest outside of Los Angeles. Kuo, now a legislative analyst for the corps, recalls slogging upstream, sometimes waist deep in water or poison oak, hauling gasoline, chain saws and other heavy gear to clear fallen trees and debris blocking the riverbed.
