Muscat: A number of job seekers and workers whose services were terminated visited the directorates of the Ministry of Labour on Monday, where they urged the authorities to settle their status at a time the government is pressing ahead with its programme of employment of citizens.
The government is providing employment opportunities through its programme of training and replacement of expat workers in the public sector with Omanis. The government also facilitates employment in different private sector areas.

Scrapping of NOC will curb human trafficking

The General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) said that a set of legislations and initiatives implemented recently will fundamentally make the labor market in the private sector in the Sultanate more attractive, especially the abolition of the requirement to provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). The decision to scrap NOC will undoubtedly contribute to reducing human trafficking and providing more room for the worker to get better job opportunities, said Nabhan al Battashi, chairman of GFOW, in his statement on the occasion of Labour Day on May 1.

Omanisation in large commercial establishments is feasible and it has been well-received, said the Minister of Manpower recently in an interview.
“Some other countries have also completely nationalized these sectors and after a study, we found that it is easy to apply in Oman. Even if there is a need for training, there are solutions and we have opened part-time work students in universities and also for housewives,” Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba owain, Minister of Labour.
The minister said the Ministry of Labour is not responsible only for employment generation, but it is a regulatory body for the sector, development of human resources, and the improvement of the performance of institutions and individuals.
