A new jobcentre is set to open in Basildon in an effort to tackle unemployment in the region. The new, temporary site will be based at Church Walk House, Church Walk Road, and is just a short walk from Basildon’s rail station. It will be officialy opened by Essex MP and Minister for Welfare Delivery, Will Quince, tomorrow (Wednesday, May 26). A team of 75 work coaches are based in the new jobcentre, giving more people direct access to tailored support to look for work and find the best new opportunities. Mr Quince said: “The opening of this new temporary jobcentre is our Plan for Jobs in action and our local team of Work Coaches have really hit the ground running.

There has been a fall in unemployment across Wales PICTURE: PA Wire. A FALL in unemployment and a rise in vacancies across Carmarthenshire and Wales as a whole has been welcomed by employment minister Mims Davies MP. Across Wales the number of people employed is at 1.48 million – an increase of 26,000 on the quarter and up 6,000 on the year. The unemployment rate is at 4.4 per cent, lower than the UK average which is at 4.8 per cent. The number of people in workless households has fallen across Wales since October to December 2010 by 137,000. Job vacancies have increased at the quickest rate for 23 years as the country continues to emerge from the lockdown, according to a study.

York Jobcentre Plus is holding the North Yorkshire Redundancy Support webinar from 11am to12noon, on Thursday, with the National Careers Service and other local providers. The event which will highlight the support available and offer expert advice to help people find a job comes as the number of workers on furlough in North Yorkshire is among the highest across the North East.
