A child is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being rescued from a house fire in Southeast D.C. early Monday.
Firefighters were called to a home at 117 Upsal St. SE, off Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and the Anacostia Freeway, just after 3 a.m. Monday. They found heavy fire showing from three sides of the building.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo said two adults and two children made it safely out of the burning house, but a third child was trapped inside and had to be rescued.

Dozens of cattle have died in a fire that was raging into Thursday evening at an agricultural building near the rural Ottawa village of Kars, says Ottawa Fire Services.
Firefighters responded to the call on First Line Road near Century Road East just outside of Manotick at about 7:30 p.m., Thursday. They saw black smoke from the roof of a barn and the building engulfed in flames, Ottawa Fire spokesperson Carson Tharris told CBC News.
OTTAWA Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) says two different fires that broke out overnight injured no one. Firefighters were first called to a building on St. Patrick Street at around 10:24 p.m. Saturday. Flames and smoke could be seen from the second floor. OFS says the fire was under control by 10:42 p.m. Ottawa Fire quickly brought a Working Fire on St. Patrick ST near Dalhousie ST under control. Multiple calls received reporting a fire at the rear of a building. Fire was contained to a 2nd.floor apartment in a 14 unit building. Ottawa firefighters battles two separate fires overnight.
Several 911 calls were received at 10:24 p.m. Saturday reporting thick black smoke from the back of a building on St. Patrick Street. When crews arrived flames and smoke were visible from the 2nd floor.

The fire was quickly extinguished and under control by 10:42 p.m and contained to the 2nd floor apartment in a 14 unit building.
There we no reported injuries.
A fire inspector was called to the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
OTTAWA A Greely man suffered serious burns to his hands in an early afternoon blaze at his home on Monday. The fire at the home on Cedar Acres Drive started around 12:45 p.m. The homeowner told fire officials that work was being done on the home when the vinyl siding caught fire. The back of the home on Cedar Acres Drive was fully involved when firefighters arrived a few minutes later Ottawa Fire Services said. There are no fire hydrants in the area, so a water tanker shuttle was brought in. Paramedics say one male patient suffered first and second-degree burns to both his hands, along with minor smoke inhalation. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
