Ellen Grieco
I am Ellen Grieco and my husband and I have been Wayland residents for 18 years. I am the mother of two Wayland Public School students, a current sophomore at Wayland High School and a 2019 graduate.
I have served on the Wayland School Committee since 2011, enjoying every moment of that time, both the many exciting dynamic changes I have witnessed and helped to create, and the tough issues involving self-doubt and frustration.
I believe deeply in the power of an outstanding public school education and specifically, of a Wayland education. I have chosen to run for re-election this year because our schools are in transition and I want to help the new superintendent achieve a smooth transition to his new administration and away from the restrictions and adverse impacts of the pandemic.
PITTSFIELD â On Tuesday evening, two educators pitched themselves as the best choice for superintendent of Pittsfield Public Schools, in the final night of interviews a day before the School Committee makes its decision.
Arthur Unobskey, superintendent of Wayland Public Schools, and Marisa Mendonsa, principal of Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland, outlined their backgrounds and educational philosophies before the seven-member School Committee.
Unobskey, also a former principal in Boston Public Schools, and English language coordinator and assistant superintendent in Gloucester Public Schools, called Pittsfield a âdynamic city that has not only tremendous assets, [but also] tremendous potential for growth and a tremendous dedication to the children.â
PITTSFIELD, Mass. The Pittsfield School Committee interviewed four finalists on Monday and Tuesday evenings in the search for the district s new superintendent. Each of the applicants has a history of more than 24 years in education and evinced a desire to embrace the city s diverse range of youth and young adults. The committee will deliberate on the appointment of the next superintendent at its regular meeting Wednesday, April 14. Former Superintendent Jason McCandless left last August for the Mount Greylock Regional School District, and former Deputy Superintendent Joseph Curtis was selected as interim superintendent. A 23-member Superintendent Search Committee was formed in November 2020 and had its first meeting in December with the hope to have a new superintendent by July 1, 2021.
