The Brockville-area health unit surpassed an unwelcome milestone on Tuesday, recording more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
And a continuing spike in cases in Lanark County has prompted the regional health unit to issue another emergency order, this time in Smiths Falls and Perth.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit reported seven new virus cases on Tuesday, based on figures as of 4 p.m. Monday, bringing it to a total of 1,003 cases since the pandemic started more than a year ago.

COVID-19 has exploded in Lanark County, with the local health unit reporting 29 new cases on Wednesday.
In response, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit enacted emergency orders effective Wednesday to put new restrictions on public gatherings in Smiths Falls and Perth, which were the centres of the latest outbreak.
