Lions take to the streets of Wicklow for bucket collection

Wicklow and District Lions Club decided to give the shoppers and community of Wicklow town a little surprise on Sunday. The Lions members walked through the town dressed in their novel Lion costumes to entertain the hundreds of people between the Gaol and the Christmas Market. Main Street was pedestrianised at the time and free of traffic. Children s faces lit up at the sight of the Lions led by King Leo but especially as the Lions were joined on their journey by a very special guest - Santa Claus. The shoppers and people in coffee shops couldn t believe their eyes when they saw Lions on the street and quickly reached for their camera phones to take a picture of not one, but seven Lions parading along the Wicklow streets.

Accused in drug-related attempt murder case granted bail Brandon Wayne Kelly,  27, of Peterborough, Ont., is facing one count of attempted murder and several firearm-related charges in connection to a May 3 shooting in Thunder Bay. Thunder Bay Courthouse THUNDER BAY A Peterborough, Ont., man facing charges of attempted murder in connection to a drug-related shooting was freed on bail on Monday following a detention review in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Brandon Wayne Kelly, 27, was arrested by Thunder Bay police in June after officers identified him as a suspect in connection to a May 3 shooting in the city. Police were dispatched to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a man had crashed his vehicle into a barricade on the hospital’s property. An investigation revealed the man had been shot prior to his arrival at the hospital.

Do You Remember Tootsie? Oh, do I remember Tootsie! Tootsie Van Kelly, the Red Hot Mama at Tootsies in the Amway Grand Plaza. What a great place. Tootsie Van Kelly s aka Tootsie s was a good-time, fun-time saloon located in the Amway from 1981 through 1995. GP Sports is in it s place now. Tootsie, (Ruth Russell) who passed away in 2007, was a red-hot mama who sang with a gusto like no other. The Tootsie Facebook page says it all.She was a belter of show tunes, saloon songs, jazz and pop for local and international crowds visiting the hotel. Lines would form outside the door to see Tootsie, the house band, singing and dancing balladeers (servers), eat peanuts and shuck them on the floor, dance chorus line style to New York, New York, try one of 100 beers and then join the Hall of Foam, eat dilly chips and drink Flaming Irish Bastards.
