Wideman pianist plays free concert in Shreveport, May 30

From Staff Reports View Comments Award-winning pianist Simon Karakulidi will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 30 at the Emmett Hook Center, 500 Common Street in Shreveport. Sponsored by the Texas Street Art Series, the event is free and open to the public. His solo recital will feature music by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) and Thomas Ades, a modern-day composer born in 1971.   Karakulidi was born in 1997 in Surgut, Siberia, and educated in the Russian piano tradition. He is also strongly enthusiastic about North American contemporary music and hopes to ignite interest in art music by making performances more interactive and accessible. He currently studies with Stanislav Iodenitch, a Van Cliburn competition gold medalist, and will be pursuing his master s degree at the Yale School of Music. An aspiring polymath, Karakulidi has interests ranging from politics to philosophy.
