NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a 26-year-old man who witnesses said was armed with a knife on Thursday in North Lauderdale, deputies said.
A witness said the man was holding the knife and pacing back and forth inside of a store. Broward Sheriff Gregory Scott Tony said dispatch received several 911 calls reporting there was a man with a knife who was cutting himself inside Ross.
The first deputy who arrived saw a suspect walk outside of the store and ordered him to drop the knife, but he didn’t, deputies said. Instead, he charged at the deputy, Tony said. Witnesses recorded the confrontation.

Deputies received a call about 9:15 p.m. about a man who was cutting himself and waving the knife around inside of a Ross Dress for Less store on West McNab Road, BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said.

When the first deputy arrived, he encountered the 26-year-old suspect outside the store.
The suspect was making threats to harm himself and harm the deputy, Coleman-Wright said.
