Roads drains and footpaths: City of Ballarat Draft Budget 2021/22 delivers on community priorities
A strong focus on critical infrastructure, including roads, drains and footpaths as part of a $130.9 million capital works program, is a key feature of the City of Ballarat’s Draft Budget 2021/22.
Among the highlights are:
$6.9 million for major road renewal projects at locations across Ballarat including Mount Pleasant, Buninyong and Ballarat North.
$2.2 million towards rural roads in the municipality, which will include patching works and gravel road renewal.
$2 million for resurfacing of local roads throughout Ballarat, covering approximately 38 kilometres of road.
$2.6 million for drainage projects, with works planned for sites including Delacombe, Mount Helen, Mount Clear and Cardigan Village.
Council's Planning Proposal LEP001/19 - 9 Industry Road, Vineyard, 312 Windsor Road, Vineyard and 7 Fernadell Drive, Pitt Town is on public exhibition.
Switching to electric vehicles that use renewable power and expanding Council's current rollout of solar power at key facilities are among the proposals.

$2 million to LED streetlights in 2021/22 Draft Budget as part of Council’s drive towards carbon neutrality
The City of Ballarat will invest $2 million, made up of $500,000 in 2021/22 and $1.5 million carried over from the current budget, into the installation of LED (light emitting diode) streetlights across the municipality’s minor roads network as part of the 2021/22 Draft Budget.
The 2021/22 draft budget includes a range of climate action and emissions reduction initiatives, including $250,000 towards the progression of a business case for a Materials Recovery Facility, $500,000 towards street trees to support Council’s long-term commitment to double the tree canopy across Ballarat by 2040 through the Urban Forest Action Plan, and $10,000 to begin development of a Net-Zero Community Emissions Plan.
