Late runs proved to be the difference in a tight doubleheader split between Longwood baseball and Charleston Southern as the two teams wrapped up their conference-opening series on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, persistence paid off for Longwood (5-6, 1-2 Big South) as they rallied past the Buccaneers to win 10-8 thanks to six runs in the final three innings. Charleston Southern (2-4, 2-1 Big South) flipped the script in game two, however, plating four runs to Longwood’s three over the final three innings to take the game 6-5 and clinch the series.

BOTTOM LINE: UNC Wilmington looks to extend Elon’s conference losing streak to seven games. Elon’s last CAA win came against the William & Mary Tribe 68-63 on March 8, 2020. UNC Wilmington fell 89-83 at home to Hofstra on Sunday.
TEAM LEADERS: Elon’s Hunter McIntosh has averaged 18.1 points while Hunter Woods has put up 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. For the Seahawks, Mike Okauru has averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists while Joe Pridgen has put up 11.3 points and 8.4 rebounds.

KEY CONTRIBUTOR: McIntosh has directly created 48 percent of all Elon field goals over the last three games. McIntosh has 20 field goals and 10 assists in those games.
NEWARK, Del. Ryan Allen had a season-high 26 points as Delaware narrowly beat Elon 75-70 on Sunday.
Dylan Painter had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Delaware (7-7, 5-4 Colonial Athletic Association). Kevin Anderson added 13 points. Andrew Carr had 12 points and three blocks. The Blue Hens made 6 of 8 free throws in the final minute.
Hunter McIntosh scored a career-high 30 points and seven assists for the Phoenix (3-5, 0-4), who have now lost five consecutive games. Hunter Woods added 12 points and seven rebounds. Federico Poser had 12 points.
Delaware defeated Elon 66-43 on Saturday.
