San Diego Unified Board discusses state s conflicting mask wearing mandate -

S.D. COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION (KUSI) – All public schools in the state of California will require students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks for the upcoming semester. It comes a day after the California Department of Public Health revised their guidance stating districts should send students home if they don’t comply with the mandate.  In a tweet they said it would now be up to each individual district to decide how they enforce the rule. San Diego Unified School Board President Richard Barrera acknowledged the confusion but reiterated the district’s stance. “Unfortunately it’s not new for us. Throughout the pandemic we’ve often gotten conflicting and contradictory guidance by the state and federal officials,” said Barrera. “In the case of opening up in the fall, we will be requiring that all students and all staff wear masks while they are indoors.”

Tracking post-holiday travel numbers as tourists flock to San Diego for the 4th -

SEAPORT VILLAGE (KUSI) – San Diegans are noticing the record-breaking number of tourists spending time from the beaches to the bay, most choosing America’s finest city as their first post-pandemic vacation. The Independence Day weekend clocked in as the second-busiest day for travel ever recorded. Doug Shupe with Automobile Club of Southern California said this could be a forecast for the months and years to come. “If these travel numbers are any indication of what’s to come, we’re expecting very busy roadways and freeways in Southern California,” Shupe said. “New travel bookings in June of this year were 6% higher than travel bookings in June of 2019, before the pandemic. And that was actually our busiest year on record for travel.”

Tax payer watchdog organization questions city attorney s part in 101 Ash St payments -

DOWNTOWN (KUSI) – On Tuesday the city of San Diego announced a lawsuit to void its lease-to-own agreements in the 101 Ash Street and Civic Center Plaza building deals due to an advisor allegedly receiving millions in undisclosed compensation for negotiating the transactions in violation of state law. Now the former City Attorney, Michael Aguirre elected to serve in 2004, is demanding more answers about what Mara Elliott and other elected officials knew about those payments. Reports show Jason Hughes represented himself to be a “special volunteer for real estate services” who was negotiating the deals on the city’s behalf for free “out of a sense of civic duty.”
