View Comments GRANVILLE – Growing up, Jeff Watkins never considered himself much of an artist, though he did a lot of drawing. “I drew a lot when I was younger,” he said, “but never pursued art. No one in my family was artistic, or so I thought. I recently learned from my cousin about Gwendolyn Watkins Graves, who was a Granville artist (1877-1973). Her art was exhibited at the Robbins Hunter Museum in 1994.” Then, about 12 years ago, he showed some sketches to an artist friend. “She convinced me to attend a two-day painting workshop with her in Lima,” he recalled. “When she asked me to go to that workshop, at first I thought, ‘I’m 55 and have never painted, why would I do that?’ Then I thought about it some more and decided, ‘Why not? It’s a day and a half out of my life. Why not try something new?’ It was one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
