In 2020, 31 people were murdered in Syracuse, matching the city s record set in 2016. Here are some of the victims.

Syracuse, N.Y. Chariel Osorio stood in front of his Near West Side home with a smile on his face and a diploma in his hands.
It was a sunny June day, and Osorio had just graduated from Corcoran High School. The 17-year-old boy, still clad in his shiny maroon graduation cap and gown, posed for a photo proudly showing off his new degree.
Six hours later, Osorio was shot in the head.

Covid-19 drove restaurants to change the way they did business this year, and it changed the way we ate. As dining rooms and bars were forced to close, chefs suddenly had to plate their creations in to-go boxes for us to enjoy at home.
Our food writers Jared Paventi, Jane Woodman and Charlie Miller continued to highlight the best food Central New York has to offer; we just did it from home.

No one will argue that 2020 left a lot to be desired. But we still had to eat. So let’s give a huge thanks to all the Central New York restaurants that kept us fed and kept us happy.
We (Jared Paventi, Jane Woodman and Charlie Miller) visited well over 75 restaurants this year that had no choice but to adjust how how they served their fine food to us. The dining rooms were restricted to half of their occupancy. These trained chefs suddenly had to plate their creations into Styrofoam. And yet they did it, and they did it well.
