After a dip in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten enrollment while schools were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Montgomery County Public Schools is hoping for a rebound in the fall.
During this academic year, now-retired MCPS Superintendent Jack Smith routinely reported a decline in the district’s enrollment, mainly in the lowest grades. When the district’s official enrollment was recorded in September, it had dropped nearly 3% (about 4,700 students) to 160,564 students.
At the time, Smith said he expected the district’s enrollment to rebound when normal in-person classes resume.

The Jollibee Group has recently opened its first Jollibee restaurant in the US state of Maryland as part of its continued expansion efforts in North America, the 12th state where the brand is present.
In a statement, Jollibee said Westfield Wheaton marks the brand’s first location in the state of Maryland and its 49th store in the U.S.
Since the start of 2021, Jollibee has opened five new locations, putting the brand on track to achieve its goal of opening 300 store locations throughout North America by 2024.
Jollibee said consumers can look forward to more locations popping up in major cities throughout the year, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.
Wheaton’s ‘Meet Me at the Triangles’ Artwork Featured in Virtual Discussion Wednesday
The lead artists who created “Meet Me at the Triangles,” a public art installation at Marian Fryer Plaza in Downtown Wheaton will discuss the design process, from conception to completion, in a virtual event at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. This presentation is part of the inaugural event for the “Curated Conversations” series presented by the Wheaton Arts and Entertainment District.
The sculpture, which was installed in October 2020, is located on 11219 Grandview Ave., near the Wheaton Metro Station and Westfield Wheaton Mall. It was created by artist Norie Sato, who collaborated with local artists Adrienne Moumin, Eric B. Ricks, Maritza Rivera and Achamyeleh Debela.
