A strong argument can be made that the fifth season premiere of
The Expanse isn’t just ‘Exodus’, but really a three-parter with Amazon Prime having dropped the first three episodes together. ‘Churn’ continues the themes and stories from the premiere in an effective manner and catches us up with some of the series’ other main and supporting players. The balance of the character driven story and the tense intrigue is well handled and takes the characters into more interesting places.
Much of ‘Churn’ centred around Amos and his mysterious past which is fleshed out just enough for audiences to understand why he never talks about it. From being used in a sex ring to taking the name of a murdered criminal, it explains a lot of why Amos is the why is, but none more so than his relationship with his mother. It is clear that while this was a loving relationship, it was far from a typical one for a mother and son to share as she didn’t sugarcoat the reality of their lives
The Expanse’s New Season

On December 16th, Amazon dropped the first three episodes of
The Expanse season five. As I mentioned in my review, these episodes are actually some of the “quietest” of the season, if anything can exactly be termed quiet on a show where someone is likely to get shot in the head when you least expect it. Next week, you’re in for
a lot happening all at once, but there’s still much to sink our teeth into this time around.
The standouts for me from these episodes ”Exodus,” “Churn,” and “Mother” are Amos journeying back to his roots in Baltimore and Drummer trying to manage her grief and coming into her own as a leader.

The Expanse just dropped its first three episodes of season 5 early this week. Next week, they’re back on a weekly release. “Exodus,” “Churn,” and “Mother” separates our core group for the first time across their storylines, and it looks like it might stay that way for a while.
Perhaps the most interesting journey is Naomi’s (Dominique Tipper). After a brief scene with Holden on Tycho Station, she departs to meet up with her son, Filip (Jasai Chase Owens), in an effort to get him away from his father, whose movement against people not of the Belt will one day get him killed. However, Naomi doesn’t seem to be aware of just how deep Filip is in. The opening sequence of the season shows Filip and his group board a science vessel, stealing their research, and executing everyone on board.

Amazon s
The Expanse has seen a fair share of drama, both onscreen and off. The critically acclaimed sci-fi adaptation has a massive, dedicated fan base that mobilized to save the show from cancellation at Syfy in 2018, leading Amazon to resurrect
The Expanse at the end of Season 3. The show was eventually renewed for three more seasons, including the recently announced sixth and final season, a bittersweet reveal that came ahead of the Season 5 premiere on December 16th.
Ahead of
The Expanse s Season 5 debut, CinemaBlend chatted virtually chatted (as is fitting for the show) with the cast about what they re most excited for fans to see from the long-awaited new episodes. Steven Strait, who plays Rocinante captain James Holden had this to say about the upcoming season:
After a year-long hiatus,
The Expanse has returned with its fifth season and wastes no time setting the stakes. ‘Exodus’ is an apt title for the fifth season premiere as it breaks up the core cast, following them on their own stories as a slow feeling of doom unknowingly creeps over them. In what we now know is the second-to-last season, it feels like the show is setting up its endgame with its characters and stories and does so very well.
It has only been a few months since the end of the fourth season as James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are taking a much needed break by following up on a lot of personal errands. Amos and Alex head back to their respective homes for the first time in years while Naomi gets information about somebody from her past that she is desperate to connect with. There isn’t much of the galactic politics, intrigue and danger seen or discussed in the episode as ‘Exodus’ focuses more on the ways the main characters react to their individu
