Padilla ‘missing’ posters mistakenly taken down Written by Makayla Grijalva on March 9, 2021
Several flyers posted around the county requesting information about missing Silver City woman Antonia “Toni” Padilla were taken down over the weekend by an unknown individual, wrongfully claiming that she had been found.
Neither the family nor police were behind the removal of the posters seeking Padilla, who has been missing for eight months. However, MaryLou Ortiz, the missing woman’s niece, said that the family is aware of the removals and is in the process of creating new posters to distribute around Silver City.
“We’ll never give up looking for her,” Ortiz said. “She is a part of our family, she is loved and she is missed so much. Life is really not the same since she went missing, and the things that people say are hurtful.”

Grant County commissioners on Thursday weighed in on a controversial piece of legislation making its way through the Roundhouse in Santa Fe: the N.M. Civil Rights Act.
Over the course of a three-hour meeting, commissioners approved several resolutions authorizing Colonias infrastructure grant applications for a preliminary engineering report for Silver Acres and two road projects, one in Arenas Valley and the other in North Hurley.
They also approved an agreement that ensures the county’s continued participation in the DWI prevention program, as well as a services agreement with the Center for Health Innovation, which operates a career training program intended to motivate primary health care providers to practice in rural Grant County.
