Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong in London. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Chung reaffirmed that the U.S.-ROK Alliance is the linchpin of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of U.S.-Republic of Korea cooperation to address the global threats of COVID-19 and the climate crisis. Additionally, Secretary Blinken and Minister Chung stressed their commitment to work together to protect and advance shared security goals, including U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral cooperation toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula

The United States and South Korea on Monday reaffirmed their alliance and its role in Indo-Pacific security, a U.S. spokesman said after a meeting in London between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and South Korea s Chung Eui-Yong. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Chung reaffirmed that the U.S.-ROK (South Korea) Alliance is the linchpin of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world, said spokesman Ned Price, according to a pool report.
Both parties are in London for G7 foreign ministers talks. South Korea is attending the event as a guest of host nation Britain.
U.S.-Japan summit sounds warning to Seoul over different viewpoints on N.K., China The first U.S.-Japan summit of the Joe Biden administration, as expected, dealt with the need for a united front against China as its top priority. The leaders of both countries focused on putting pressure on China in many areas, including technology. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea. The two leaders agreed on the importance of trilateral cooperation among the U.S., South Korea and Japan in security and prosperity. Japan got closer to the U.S. despite the growing threat from China.
The leaders of both countries focused on putting pressure on China in many areas, including technology.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearisation of North Korea.

These developments sound a warning to South Korea ahead of its summit with the US late next month, given its different viewpoints on North Korea and China.
