Apr 5, 2021 Paul A. Hood passed away peacefully Saturday, April 3, 2021 following illness and complications following cancer surgery. Paul was born Jan. 17, 1950 to the late Herb Hood and Agnes Sell. He was a graduate of Wellsville High School and pursued higher education at the University of Mount Union as well as Miami University and Kent State University. He will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 42 years, Jennifer (Dye) Hood, as well as his admiring daughter, Christina (Hood) Douglas; son-in-law, Michael Douglas, and two cherished grandchildren, Jaxson and Brooklynn. Paul is also survived by his loving sister, Cathy Hood; niece Alex Hiser, and nephew, Daniel Hiser, all of whom he truly enjoyed spending time with and he looked forward to their every visit.

Apr 1, 2021 POLAND Grayce Ann Dolesh, 84, of Poland, formerly of North Olmsted, passed away Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021, at the Inn at Poland Way (Memory Care Unit). Grayce was born July 26, 1936, in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late John Arthur and Mary Alice Duffy Rumberger. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1954 and moved to the Cleveland area. Grayce started her career as a dance teacher, teaching modern dance. A self-educated woman, she attended workshops in sensory motor integration with patterning and music. She was very passionate about her work helping autistic and learning disabled children. She believed early educational success started in pre-school, which motivated her to develop “Learning with a S.M.I.L.E.” Grace retired from Middleburg Early Education Center Pre-school and Lakeshore Day Camp. She enjoyed reading and loved attending the theatre with her husband and friends.

John Joseph Gibas WELLSVILLE John Joseph Gibas, 92, of Wellsville, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Calcutta Health Care Center. He was born August 22, 1928, in Port Homer, Ohio, the son of the late John J. and Florence (Spencer) Gibas. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters: Bonnie Nightingale, Mary Reese, and Betty Scott. John graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. He was employed for thirty-one years as a belt grinder in the cold strip for the former Crucible Steel Mill. John was a member of the Wellsville Alumni Association and was a regular volunteer at the monthly spaghetti dinners held at the Alumni Center. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and Holy Trinity Parish.

Jude Mercer Jude Mercer has been selected as Scholar of the Month for January at East Liverpool High School. Jude is the son of Suzanne and John Mercer. Jude ranks in the top 20% of his senior class with a GPA of 3.686, taking a combination of Advanced Placement and College Credit Plus courses. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and has received All-Academic Honors for soccer and tennis for the past four years. Jude is a member of the tennis and soccer teams, winning the OVAC Championship for soccer, and he is a member of the Outdoor Adventure Club, Booster Club, and Student Council, serving as Treasurer of the Class of 2021 for two years.
