WELLESLEY, MA A MassBay paramedicine student is the newest recruit to the Wellesley Fire Department.
James Cassidy of Holliston joined MassBay s Paramedicine program in January 2020. He is one of seven new firefighters recently hired by the Wellesley Fire Department.
Cassidy started his higher education at MassBay to follow in his brother s footsteps and discover his passion. Cassidy told MassBay that his interest in becoming a first-responder was sparked after several friends joined local firehouses. I knew that training as an EMT and paramedic would provide me with a great foundational skill set.

Firefighters and police responded to a river in Massachusetts to rescue a dog that fell into the frigid waters and couldn t reach shore on its own.
ADVERTISEMENT The Wellesley Police Department said personnel from the Wellesley Fire Department conducted an ice water rescue with help from Dover Fire personnel and police when the dog fell into the Charles River at Elm Bank.
The department tweeted photos of firefighters wading out into the frigid water and carrying the canine to shore, where it was wrapped in a blanket for warmth.

On Dec. 7 at 1:17 p.m., Officer Collins was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street when he observed a Kia SUV with an expired inspection sticker and registration sticker. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator and asked for his license and registration. The male operator said he did not have a license. A query of his information confirmed he was unlicensed.
