We are all guilty, ladies and gentlemen. You may think you live in a blameless village with a pretty church, a pub, a school, a newsagent and a duckpond. A village where the only thing of note to happen since the Norman Conquest was that time Gary, the postmistress’s nephew, changed the tyre on the Triumph Spitfire of Shelley from Bucks Fizz when she broke down on the B3199 in the summer of 1982.
Is that why you’re such a seafood champion? Our family farm was out of Masterton, an hour and a bit away from Castlepoint. Have you been there? I lost the exhaust pipe on my Triumph Spitfire there the very first weekend I had it – about a hundred years ago. Well, Castlepoint hasn’t changed. There are still beautiful baches along the waterfront, and the campground’s still there. We had an old caravan and a tinny, and we’d go for two weeks a year. Everything revolved around low tide. We’d go over to Mataikona and the fathers would swim out to get crayfish.
PRIMARY school pupils had a very special visit from Santa - with a twist - on the final day of term. Children at Trinity All Saints Church of England Primary School, in Bingley, were delighted when Father Christmas turned up in an iconic, gleaming Triumph Spitfire this afternoon. The school said: As Santa couldn t come in to visit us, our friends at The Rotary Club helped to deliver Santa to us in a Spitfire Triumph instead. We have been trying to make Christmas as special as possible for our children in these tough times, and it certainly put a smile on everyone s face.
