To compile this list, I search as much of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist as I can for interesting vehicles that don’t cost a lot. They may be hilariously unreliable, remarkably unique, questionably tuned, or maybe something else that stops me in my tracks. Prices for some particular cars are trending higher due to the pandemic and chip shortage, but I think some good deals are still out there.

A MAN with terminal cancer is seeking the reckless driver who deprived him of the use of his vintage car following a close call on a Lake District road. Dashcam footage from a trailing vehicle shows an impatient road-user missing Dave Bailey’s Triumph Stag by inches during an overtaking manoeuvre. Catastrophe was only avoided thanks to Mr Bailey, who was born in Kendal, quickly turning his classic car into the verge, damaging the suspension in the process. Mr Bailey, 55, was given the news that he had terminal cancer last year. The Triumph, bought with inheritance from his father, who died around the same time as Mr Bailey’s diagnosis, was meant as a present to himself during a difficult time.
