The picture for the GI Kentucky Oaks might look a lot different late Saturday afternoon than it does at the present. There are four races on tap-the GIII Gazelle S., the GI Ashland S., the GIII Fantasy and the GII Santa Anita Oak–that will feature more than a dozen serious candidates for the last Friday in April. Five horses among our top 10 are slated to go.
Meanwhile, last weekend s action featured a win in the GII Gulfstream Park Oaks for

Flashback: Ranking the 5 greatest Rebel Stakes winners
By Keeler Johnson / Special to HRN

Oaklawn Park’s Grade 2
Rebel Stakes dates back to 1961, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that the 1 1/16-mile Kentucky Derby prep race truly rose to prominence. The roster of recent winners reads like a who’s who of Triple Crown stars, champions and Grade 1 winners, and the 2020 renewal carried a purse of $1 million 10 times higher than the $100,000 pot up for grabs as recently as 2002.
If you attempt to rank the best Rebel winners since 1961, the Rebel’s recent ascent becomes obvious. While rankings are always subjective, I believe four of the five most memorable Rebel champs have visited the winner’s circle since 2004, with Lawyer Ron (2006), Secret Circle (2012), and Will Take Charge (2013) deserving honorable mentions.

Ed Deicke, a 54-year-old financial advisor from Lido Beach, New York, has turned a lifelong love of horse racing into a potentially lucrative hobby as a prominent player on the National Horseplayers Championship [NHC] tour.
“I do mostly retirement planning. It s all I ve ever done and I really do love it,” said Deicke, who also serves as a mentor for prospective NHC players. “The market has its ups and downs and managing expectations is probably harder than managing the money, but I enjoy it. I do math during the week and I do even more math on the weekends.”
