Body found in stream
A body was found in Raumanga Stream in central Whangārei yesterday. A member of the public called police just before 2pm to report a body floating face-down. It is believed the body, which was near a vessel and mooring poles at the rear of Hihiaua Cultural Centre on Herekino St, became visible as the water dropped. Acting Senior Sergeant Shane Turner, of Whangārei police, said the body had been removed and the site had been blessed by kaumatua. The man had yet to be identified. There was nothing to indicate any suspicious circumstances. A police investigation into the cause of death

An Australian television host has slammed Meghan Markle, urging the Duchess of Sussex to shut up after the royal s friends revealed the real reason she was not attending Prince Philip s funeral.
Markle had not travelled to London because she doesn t want to be the centre of attention at the service, her friends reportedly said.

National Party MP Simon Bridges says talk of a leadership ticket with Christopher Luxon is just chatter but did not deny having discussed it with Luxon.
The NZ Herald revealed last week there was discussion among some MPs within National about Luxon either taking on the leadership in his first term, or a leadership ticket with Bridges as leader and Luxon as his deputy if Luxon decided to wait.
In a masterclass of cryptic answers on his way into a caucus meeting on Tuesday, Bridges first said it s just chatter .
