The last two weeks offered a hefty challenge for the Stony Brook men’s basketball team, with four games against the top two teams in the America East standings. After being swept in Burlington by the Vermont Catamounts on Feb. 13 and 14, the Seawolves lost all four of those contests.
“We need to win just to feel better about life,” head coach Geno Ford said in a postgame press conference after suffering the sweep on Sunday. “This weekend was kind of extra because we did play well enough to win … I think that we all are ready for the tournament.”

The Vermont Catamounts are the 51st DI team and fourth from the America…
Appearing in three of the past four America East title games (2016, 2018, 2019), the Vermont Catamounts have been one of the stronger mid-majors in college lacrosse, and certainly one of the strongest teams within their conference, in recent years.
They held a 3-1 record and looked to be a contender for the America East title once again during the shortened 2020 season. Their three victories came against Quinnipiac, Merrimack, and Dartmouth. They lone loss was to Holy Cross.
Since Chris Feifs’ inaugural season in Burlington (2017), the Catamounts have certainly had excellent pieces on both ends of the field. But this program’s identity has been and remains on defense. Vermont ranked 14th in scoring defense in 2017, seventh in 2018, 10th in 2019, and fourth during the shortened 2020 season. They also have also had the luxury of having one of nation’s premier goalies, Nick Washuta, in between the pipes each of those four seasons.

University of Maine men’s hockey coach Dennis “Red” Gendron has looked everywhere for one, but there’s no blueprint for the 2020-21 season.
“There’s no road map, I went back and checked Shawn Walsh’s files, he didn’t have anything on pandemics,” Gendron said. “I was a little disappointed because I always thought Shawn Walsh used to think of everything. He didn’t think of this one.”
