VT tick season 2021: Tips before you head out the door

Tick season is alive and well in Vermont, even with snow on the ground. At the beginning of April, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture put out a notice on its social media page that ticks had made their return around the state. Last year, amid the temporary stay at home order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine encouraged residents eager to get outdoors to watch for bite-sized pests. Spring tick activity is generally linked to increased cases of Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, according to a data report from the Vermont Department of Health. Going back to 2004, the department has tracked tick-related emergency room visits using data collection from hospitals across the state.

Vermont Officials Discuss Vaccination Rates During Tuesday Briefing

The Checkup for April 21: One new death, 73 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Vermont

THE DAILY NUMBERS One Vermonter died of COVID-19 over the past two days, the Vermont Department of Health reported in updating its COVID dashboard for the first time since Monday. The death toll is now 243. Twenty-seven Vermonters were hospitalized with the disease as of Wednesday, and three of those patients were in intensive care. The health department reported 73 new cases of COVID-19 in Vermont on Wednesday. The state’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 22,238, an increase of 126 since Monday. Twelve of Vermont’s 14 counties reported new cases over the past day. Chittenden County had 23; Bennington and Rutland counties each had nine; Orleans County had six; Lamoille and Windham counties each had five; Orange and Washington counties each had four; Caledonia and Windsor counties each had three; and Essex and Franklin counties each had one. Addison and Grand Isle counties had no new cases.
