Firefighters climb a hill to put out the fire.
Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire at Quail Run Ranch in the 3000 block of Maricopa Highway at 6:12 p.m. Friday, June 18. Highway 33 was closed, but was reported to have reopened with traffic control as of 9:30 p.m.
The fire was initially reported to be a half acre, moving uphill toward a lemon orchard. As of 8:50 p.m., the firefighters had the fire under control.
Firefighters said their early priority was that the fire not get into the canyon on the left side from the road.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is investigating incidents of sexual abuse and misconduct at The Thacher School an Ojai boarding school and, in a June 24 press release, said investigators “believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who were not contacted and/or included” in a report from a law firm the school hired to investigate the allegations.

Former Head of School Michael Mulligan wrote in a lengthy letter on July 29 that he and his wife will fight to protect our reputation and good names.

The Thacher School board voted unanimously July 28 to remove the name of retired Head of School Michael Mulligan from the school dining hall and athletic field steps for “failure to protect Thacher students from harm,” after the release of a June 16 report that included interviews with former students who said Mulligan could have exercised more authority to root out alleged abusers.
