Sarasota County schools eyes Wellen Park as spot for next high school
Rapid growth in Wellen Park means the Sarasota County School Board will likely be building new schools and changing the zoning boundaries for others as the South County development is expected to bring more than 20,000 new residents to the county in the next 12 years, according to documents reviewed Tuesday by the board.
Between Wellen Park, Winchester Ranch and Palmer Ranch, the district is preparing for potentially 6,523 new students in South County in the next several years. That is more than the combined anticipated growth totals in the central portion of the county (2,517 new students expected) and the north section (2,792).
