In the wake of protests in Cuba and the US both for and against the socialist government in Cuba, progressives from around the world published a letter in the New York Times urging US President Joe Biden to undo the range of sanctions imposed on the country by his predecessor, Donald Trump, and “let Cuba live!”
“It is time to take a new path forward in US-Cuban relations. We, the undersigned, are making this urgent, public appeal to you to reject the cruel policies put into place by the Trump White House that have created so much suffering among the Cuban people,” the letter to Biden says.

ISLAMABAD: Government ministers have called for Britain to place anti-graft curbs on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif after the United Kingdom placed sanctions on five individuals around the world, including the son of Equatorial Guinea’s president, as part of its global anti-corruption regime.
The UK said it had frozen the assets of and put travel bans on the five, who are accused of siphoning off public funds in Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela and Iraq.
“The action we have taken today targets individuals who have lined their own pockets at the expense of their citizens,” Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said in a statement. “Corruption drains the wealth of poorer nations, keeps their people trapped in poverty and poisons the well of democracy,” Raab added.

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Les autorités colombiennes ont annoncé jeudi avoir arrêté dix personnes accusées d être impliquées dans des attaques menées le mois dernier contre un hélicoptère transportant le président Ivan Duque et contre une base militaire, des faits orchestrés selon Bogota par anciens rebelles des Farc exilés au Venezuela.
L explosion d un véhicule piégé sur la base militaire de Cucuta, dans le nord-est du pays, a fait 44 blessés dont deux conseillers de l armée américaine. Par la suite le mois dernier, un hélicoptère transportant Ivan Duque et d autres représentants a été criblé de balles alors qu il approchait de la ville.

Colombia arrested 10 suspected of participating in the attack Helicopter carrying President Ivan Duke As well as a military base last month, officials said on Thursday that it was planned by the former FARC rebel leader based in Venezuela.
A car explosion occurred at the base in the northeastern city of Cucuta, where the 30th Army Brigade is located, injuring 44 people, including two U.S. military advisers. In late June, a helicopter carrying Duke and other officials was strafed by bullets as it approached the city.
Defense Minister Diego Morano said at a press conference that the order to launch the attack came from the former leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia operating in Venezuela.
