Randy Cutshall | Special to the Weatherford Democrat WEATHERFORD — After COVID-19 derailed plans for last year’s annual Parker County Peach Festival, organizers are excited to get back to normal this year, preparing for Saturday’s event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic downtown Weatherford. “There’s always an excitement this time of year as the peaches come in season, but being forced to skip the festival last year has made everyone even more eager for its return,” Weatherford Chamber President Tammy Gazzola said.

She wanted to be a journalist and a difference-maker. “I was a young girl, probably about 6 or 7 years old. My late grandfather would pull out the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and would read it to me as I sat on his lap,” Addison recalled. “He’d always teach me new punctuation marks. At that point, I’d begin writing my own stories to read aloud to my family. My mom said she would catch me writing stories and using my older brother’s world history book as a source.”

Lions face uphill climb after dropping series opener to Iowa Park, 8-0

WEATHERFORD – The Brownwood Lions fell victim to a two-hit shutout by Chance Helton as the Iowa Park Hawks took control of the best-of-three Region I-4A baseball bi-district series with an 8-0 victory Friday night. District 6-4A third seed Brownwood (10-11) mustered just a first-inning single up the middle by Kris Hobbs to go along with a third-inning infield single off the mound by Kaden Bessent. Byron Foster was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning to account for the only other Lion base runner. Hunter Day went the distance on the mound for the Lions, yielding seven earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
