Fort Smith Times Record A communications department featuring new hires and a sleek new city website could be on the horizon for the city of Fort Smith but at a price tag that left the board of directors in a discussion. Shari Cooper, communications manager for the city, presented a plan for a possible new website, communications department, and partnership with representatives Granicus, a civic engagement program. Ryan Martinez and Byron Gillian with Granicus also presented. Cooper s proposal focuses on centralizing communication work for the city and making the city s website, www.fortsmithar.gov, a one-stop-shop with an emphasis on partnering with other local groups like the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Arkansas Colleges of Health Education, as well as nonprofits and tourism groups.

Lafayette Parish students can receive free meals for 2021-2022 school year

View Comments The Lafayette Parish School System will provide free school meals for all students through the 2021-2022 school year, which begins Aug. 12. Regardless of income eligibility, access to free breakfast and lunch will be available at all LPSS school sites, district officials announced Wednesday.  This is possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which has implemented certain waivers of federal regulations that will allow Child Nutrition Programs to operate under guidelines that will provide free meals to all students, according to a release. Other free meal options continuing this year include snacks for after-school care and tutoring programs, weekend meal distribution at four LPSS school sites, and participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program at three school sites.
