Permits for importing migrant workers to Taiwan extended

Taipei, May 25 (CNA) Permits that allow Taiwanese employers to hire migrant workers will be automatically extended three months in the wake of the entry ban on foreign nationals into Taiwan, labor authorities said in a statement Tuesday.
The three-month extension applies to permits that would otherwise expire from May 19 to June 30, the statement said.
Under this provision, a permit that would have expired on May 25 will now remain valid until August 25 without an employer needing to file an extension application, according to the Workforce Development Agency.
The decision will benefit around 8,500 employers in Taiwan, the statement said.

Taipei, May 25 (CNA) The latest batch of AstraZeneca vaccine doses received in Taiwan last week could be available to the public starting this Friday, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Tuesday, as the country continues to battle a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Taiwan received 410,400 doses of the AZ vaccine on May 19, and safety checks should be completed Wednesday afternoon, according to Deputy Interior Minister Chen Tsung-yen (陳宗彥), who serves as deputy head of the CECC.
Once they are certified, the vaccines can be distributed for use across the country starting Thursday and be administered to people as soon as Friday, Chen said.

Taiwan temporarily suspending self-paid COVID-19 vaccination program

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) People who have not made appointments for a self-paid COVID-19 vaccination will have to wait for the next round of vaccinations as the program is currently being suspended, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said Saturday.
However, those who have already booked with any of the several designated hospitals across Taiwan to be vaccinated will not be affected, he said.
According to Chen, who is also head of the Central Epidemic Command Center, the number of people getting vaccinated for COVID-19 has hit a new daily high, as 32,251 people received a COVID-19 vaccine in Taiwan on Friday, bringing the total to 186,149 doses administered.

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has found the same type of coronavirus in patients in cluster infections in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Yilan, a health official said Saturday.
As of that day, 17 COVID-19 patients in the Novotel/China Airlines cluster in Taoyuan have contracted the same variant of the coronavirus found in at least 10 patients in a cluster recently found in New Taipei, CECC official Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said during a press briefing, citing the latest genome sequencing results.
