Man seriously injured in New Year s Day shooting in Fall River

January 1, 2021 10:26 pm FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – Fall River Police are currently investigating a shooting on Lawrence Street. Fall River Police Lieutenant Jay Huard said a man was shot in the groin area on Friday night at 227 Lawrence Street. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. Police said approximately 10 rounds were reported fired from a vehicle that fled the scene. On Saturday, Haurd said the victim is now in stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to call Fall River Police Department at (508)-676-8511.

Mass police reform: Fall River begins training as bill awaits signing

Jo C. Goode FALL RIVER  The amended Massachusetts police reform bill is expected to be signed by Gov. Charlie Baker  as the public demands more law enforcement accountability, improved training and social justice and in Fall River initiatives are already moving ahead. The measure bans chokeholds, using tear gas on large demonstrations and most no-knock warrants where a child or person over age 65 is home. It also creates a civilian-led oversight board that will certify officers and can handle misconduct complaints. After objections by Baker, that board will not oversee officer training. Fall River Police Chief Jeffrey Cardoza outlined a number of new programs he intends to begin implementing for his officers and some trainings that are already in play.

Man Run Over by Car in Fall River Dies A man found trapped beneath a motor vehicle Monday evening apparently fell into the roadway prior to being struck, authorities said. On December 21 at about 7:47 p.m., Fall River police and EMS personnel responded to the area of 600 Second Street for reports of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Officers arrived and located a 47-year-old man trapped under a vehicle. The pedestrian victim was freed and transported to St. Anne’s Hospital, where he died, according to Fall River Police Lt. Jay D. Huard. The department s major crimes detective, accident reconstruction, and crime scene units responded to the scene for a follow-up investigation. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian had fallen in the roadway prior to being struck, the department said in a media release.
