DND, Veterans Affairs workers say harassment complaints not taken seriously: unions

OTTAWA It has been nearly two years since a civilian employee at the Defence Department says she first lodged a workplace harassment complaint against one of her superiors and she says the bureaucratic stonewalling ever since has left her feeling defeated. The woman, whom The Canadian Press agreed not to identify because she fears reprisal while she remains employed by the department, says it all started when she was asked to do work outside her job description, which she refused to do. “As soon as I said, ‘No,’ there was a change in my entire work environment and how I was handled,” she said Tuesday in an interview.

iPolitics By Kady O Malley. Published on Mar 15, 2021 6:01am WE Charity founders Craig and Marc Kielburger appear remotely before the House of Commons finance on July 28, 2020, to testify about the WE scandal. (Andrew Meade/iPolitics) The House of Commons may have powered down for a week-long hiatus, but members of the House ETHICS committee may get the chance to test the limits of their collective power to compel witnesses to testify when WE Charity co-founders Marc and Craig Kielburger return for a second round of parliamentary cross-examination this afternoon. (2:30 PM) As previewed by iPolitics, the brothers are booked in for an extended three-hour appearance, during which they’ll face a flurry of pointed follow-up questions on the circumstances surrounding that now-nixed contract to divvy up over $500 million in COVID-19 emergency funding earmarked for student volunteers.
