Work progressing well on 36-home Spalding development

Work is continuing on a new housing development on the site of a former hospital in Spalding. Longhurst Group is building 36 new homes on the former Welland Hospital site in the town, and construction work is continuing at pace.
Work on the Welland Park development, which will comprise two and three-bedroom homes, started in July and now the first sign of the structures of the properties can be seen.
Marcus Keys, of the Longhurst Group, said he was delighted with progress.
He added: âWeâve faced a few challenges along the way thanks to the weather and the coronavirus pandemic, but weâre all really pleased with the progress being made at Welland Park.
Flooding concern over Surfleet flats plan

Planners have held off making a decision on a bid to convert a pub into flats over flooding concerns.
Members of South Holland District Councilâs Planning Committee deferred N Bondâs application to create seven flats at the Riverside Hotel in Surfleet.
Councillors expressed safety concerns about a one bedroom flat being created within the buildingâs cellar due to the location next to the River Welland.

Officers have been asked to go back and look at the flood risk on the site.
The virtual meeting on Wednesday was told that the majority of the building was in flood zone one, while there was an element in flood zone 3 along with the fact that Environment Agency (EA) had lodged a technical objection.
Petition to save Bourne bridge

More than 700 people have signed a petition to preserve a historical bridgethreatened with demolition.
Bellway Homes has applied for planning permission to build 373 new properties in zone seven of the Elsea Park development in Bourne, the final area left at the site.
The principle of the development in âzone sevenâ was established through the approval of an outline planning application and masterplan for Elsea Park in 2001, before Bellwayâs involvement with the site.

The plans for 373 new properties include one to four bedroom houses and bungalows. Of the 373 homes, 37 would be designated as âaffordableâ.
