SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With Washoe County and Douglas County making big moves this week concerning the regulation of vacation home rentals (VHRs), it may be time to take a look at the current situation of the popular lodging options around Lake Tahoe.
VHRs in the South Lake Tahoe city limits will be banned after 2021 except for those in the Tourist Core area. There will be no permits renewed in 2021, so a homeowner s permit expires this year. The voter initiated measure to ban VHRs, Measure T, passed by a slim margin in 2018. Permanent residents can get a permit to rent their homes out up to 30 days per year as a vacation rental.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When the news hit that the Sacramento Region was moving out of the stay-at-home order Tuesday evening, the announcement caught many by surprise, especially those businesses that had been closed since it went into effect December 10, 2020.
South Lake Tahoe and the rest of El Dorado County are part of the Sacramento Region and even though the current availability of ICU beds is under 10 percent, the four-week projection is over the benchmark of 15 percent. The removal of stay-at-home order really stunned me, said Teresa Bertrand, owner of BioSpirit Day Spa in South Lake Tahoe. I had to look at the press release a few times.

1/13/21 UPDATE: The state has updated its website to reflect that hotels and vacation rentals can open with modifications in the purple tier. For all businesses, visit https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Just moments ago, the Greater Sacramento Region, of which El Dorado County is a part, was granted authority by the State to exit the Regional Stay At Home Order, effective immediately. This is based on the State’s four-week projection putting the region’s ICU capacity at 19.1 percent, above the 15 percent threshold announced last month.
California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly held a video conference earlier Tuesday, saying the news was coming. He said the downward trajectory of new hospitalizations was promising, with 3500 new ones on Sunday and 2500 new yesterday.
