Workington Town Council appoints its new mayor

WORKINGTON Town Council appointed a new mayor on Wednesday evening. Councillor Herbert Briggs was sworn in as the Mayor for the upcoming year at a ceremony in the Moorclose Theatre. Councillor Briggs used his speech to thank his wife and family for all the support they had shown him over the years, as well as outgoing mayor Janet King for her work whilst in office. He also said he looked forward to what he hopes will be a great year in office. After the ceremony, he said: “It’s an honour to be the mayor of my own town. I’m 56 years old and I’ve lived in Workington 56 years.

Can you support Hospice at Home West Cumbria pop-up shop? A vital Cumbrian charity is asking for the public’s support as they open a pop-up shop. Hospice at Home West Cumbria is opening a pop-up shop at their Finkle Street building in Workington town centre on Tuesday. The temporary shop will be open for two weeks and will sell brand new items of high street branded ladies clothing which were donated to the charity from a local business that closed earlier this year. Brands on sale include M&S, Next, Zara and includes items such as summer clothing, nightwear, lingerie, jeans, and jackets, with all items available in a variety of sizes.
