RHODE ISLAND s House Finance Committee has approved amended lottery legislation regarding an agreement with International Game Technology PLC and its partner, Bally’s Corp., to solidify a 20-year deal to run the state-sponsored gambling operation. / PBN FILE PHOTO/ARTISTIC IMAGES PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s House Finance Committee passed its amended lottery contract legislation by a vote of 11 to two on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Two Republicans, House Minority Leader, Blake A. Filippi, R-New Shoreham, and Rep. George A. Nardone, R-Coventry, opposed the bill. The legislation will be voted on in the R.I. House of Representatives on May 11, and then sent to the R.I. Senate for consideration.

House Speaker Joe Shekarchi said it s a better deal for taxpayers. The legislation increases revenue to our state and preserves critical jobs, Shekarchi, D-Warwick, said in a release. Under the revised bill, the upfront payment to the state will increase from $25 million to $27 million.  It also calls for the acceleration of job creation, increased financial commitments, and a 50,000-square-foot expansion to Twin River Casino in Lincoln.
