When Malaysia ’s former police chief last week took aim at government officials over their links to elite officers as he passed the reins to his successor, insiders who had long discussed the issue in hushed tones found their suspicions brought out in the open.
Abdul Hamid Bador, who stepped down as the national inspector-general of police on Monday (May 3), had unleashed an unbridled attack at Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin ’s government that drew particular attention to the current Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin.
“I was informed that the minister had forced the Special Branch to conduct several operations for its own political purposes,” he was quoted as saying by The Malaysia Gazette newspaper.

Without adequate firepower, even the unhappy ones stayed put, fairly assuming both critics of Umno would politically die out there in the cold. Better to be in an unprincipled Umno than to sink with an untested new enterprise.

COMMENT | I have a feeling that Abdul Hamid Bador would have agreed to continue for another few months as inspector-general of police (IGP) till the emergency is over in August had he been asked to.
The policeman in him will compel him to do so; just as he had confided in his
farewell address last Monday that “I look happy to retire but my heart is anxious for the police force”.
However, I do not think that another four months for Hamid as the IGP will make much difference or see any significant changes for PDRM (Polis DiRaja Malaysia). On the contrary, it could turn out to be disastrous for the police force if the top brass are unable to get along.

Putrajaya has been urged to establish a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) based on allegations by outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador against Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin.

above) said this was needed as the police service is a critical enforcement agency and should be led by professionals with integrity. Only then will.
