Among the first Coloradans to be vaccinated against COVID-19 were residents and employees of nursing homes and other senior-care centers in the state. But while these efforts initially seemed to be eliminating outbreaks at such facilities, that s clearly not the case. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has reported nearly 100 outbreaks at health-care sites in the past two weeks, with the category surpassing outbreaks at K-12 schools for the first time in months.
The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. It s a good thing the school year is almost over: The latest report from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment lists 58 new COVID-19 outbreaks at K-12 schools, the most in a single week since the department began releasing weekly outbreak lists over a year ago.
Of the 859 outbreaks currently under active investigation by the CDPHE, K-12 schools account for 251, or just over 29 percent of the total. That appears to be a record, too.

North Platte is a strong community for kids just ask someone who has moved here.
That strength was on display for two hours on Saturday, April 17, when parents, kids and volunteers converged on the bricks downtown to celebrate the week of the young child.
Organizer Diane Livingston said the event came together in just three weeks, thanks to the community spirit of dozens of volunteers and merchants.
Members of the North Platte High football team ran kids games at the main intersection – bean bag toss, a football toss and a parachute. The colorful parachute has hand grips, so older kids and adults can hoist it high in the air and younger kids can run underneath.
Sold out Empty Bowls event raises money to feed homeless

A locally based homeless shelter hosted their annual Empty Bowls drive-thru in Atascadero on Thursday.
El Camino Homeless Organization presented the fundraiser offering meals for $50 and $60 including the souvenir bowl.
All 150 tickets were sold for the $60 price point so everyone went home with a bowl of their own.
Local restaurants donated the family meals which included soup and bread for 4, as well as dessert.
The money raised will be able to provide meals for 600 people.
ECHO operates three overnight shelters in Atascadero and Paso Robles to meet the immediate needs of families and individuals who have become homeless.
