Farmers Alley Theatre will present its season with the streaming platform Broadway On Demand to stay connected to theater-lovers in west Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a conversation with Cara Lieurance, deputy director Rob Weiner and artistic director Jeremy Koch offer a behind-the-scenes perspective on how they regrouped after the pandemic began, and they preview this month s event,
The Conviction of Lady Lorraine, a one-woman show by Dwandra Nickole Lampkin about a writer who encounters a homeless woman. It has been transformed into a tele-play for its debut on Oct 29. Ticket-holders can stream the play at any time for a 7-day period once it s released.

One of the event s organizers, Becca Shemberger, says there are three ways to participate New Year s Eve. The first way is live and in-person. That s going to be outdoors on the North Kalamazoo Mall in front of Burdick s and the old Zazios right there. We re utilizing the steps to kind of make a stage, and we will have live performers there from 7 to 10:45.
There will be a deejay from then until midnight. People who attend in-person are asked to wear face masks at all times and follow social distance guidelines.

Highlights include a brand-new song, Candy Cane Lane, by alum Joriah Kwamé, Michigan Christmas sung by Max Wardlaw, Nat Zegree s deeply personal Imagine The Season, and a collaborative reading of The Night Before Christmas. It was produced for film with help from the Public Media Network, co-directed by Jeremy Koch and Kathy Mulay, and music-directed by Catherine Walker.
